Finally, an apparant quality mount for my beloved iPhone on my road bike! Ordered, arrived, looks JUST like the ad picture. So far so good. But now the moment of truth . . . well, the ACTUAL moment of truth would have been the maiden voyage with the Arkon Bicycle Mount neatly perched on the handlebars of my Cannondale R1000 (stock handlebars, tape wrapped).But that was not to be, you see attaching the mount to my bike was not possible! As many other reviewers have reported, the peculiar hinged design of this mount seriously limits the range of diameters of handlebars to which it will fit. The mounting hardware is hinged on one side and uses a bolt and wingnut on the other to grip the handle bars in a vice-like arangement.Well, that's what is intended. But if your handlebars are too large, as they were on my old Cannondale and on my new Jamis (3T bars and 3T stem), the clamshell design simply will not open wide enough. Also, the inside diameter of the "clam-shell" is too small. Most typical roadbike bars are of a fairly large diameter owing to the fact that they are often made of light-weight material (Aluminum or Carbon Fiber) and must be relatively large to endure the stresses.Be aware that if your handlebar diameter is too small, then the clamp will not fit either. It would seem that some reviewers found that the clamp fit their bikes. Lucky them, because other than the stunningly poor design of the clamp, this mount seems to be fine.I adapted my Akron Mount with a combination of rubber caulking and rubber bands. Yes, I DID say rubber bands! Its quite ugly but it works. I removed the bottom half of the clamshell clamp and threw it away. Not exactly an elegant solution, but it works. Well, sort of.The three prong grip that holds the phone is somewhat suspect. Not willing to trust it, I wrapped a wide rubber band around the mount and the phone (at the single prong end). Now I am confident that the mount won't come off of the bike and the phone won't come out of the mount.Finally, the detachable phone-gripping portion of the mount is sorely inadequate. After only a couple of cycles of attaching and detaching it became so loose that I choose to use epoxy to permanently glue it into place. The phone is fairly easy to remove from the "grip" portion of the mount. So, why would one need to detach the whole assembly from the mount? To perhaps move it to ANOTHER mount elsewhere? Not a feature I would find especially useful and certainly not worth compromising the integrity of the connection!Bottom line: Check Arkon's website before buying this model. There are others they sell that supposedly (!) open to accomodate up to 35mm bars. Good luck! Jamis Bikes rule! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid, inexpensive iPhone bicycle mount *by M***N on Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2012* Usage: Specialized Tri road bike, iPhone 3GS, iMapMyRideI was looking for an inexpensive but secure way to mount my iPhone on my bike for long rides. I use iMapMyRide all the time, and like to listen to music too (I advise against headphones/music on public roadways - it's illegal in some jurisdictions and unsafe with car traffic).This mount was astonishingly cheap at under $14. More importantly, it's very solid. My bike has narrow, high pressure tires and road bumps are clearly transmitted (!) - yet I have never had the iPhone come loose in a few hundred miles of vigorous riding. Also, the mount swivels so that you can tilt the iPhone for visibility. This mount does NOT include any kind of iPhone case - and I don't think most cases would work with the mount. I simply have a screen protector, otherwise my iPhone is naked.Simple, cheap, solidly built, works as advertised. That's good enough for my first 5 rating.UPDATE: June 2012: I finally had my iPhone come out of this mount ... however it was some fairly high-speed, not-quite-tapered, sidewalk-to-road bumps. Probably not reasonable to expect more - it is certainly not the type of riding that I want to subject my road bike to either! Fortunately, no damage to the bike or phone. I have had no issues with the mount at all. I like the ability to be able to tilt the phone different ways for sun reflection. I use the Bi.Cycle App and this mount works great for that.One issue I had after I mounted the second one on my road bike was that it was causing Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) when I would turn on the Iphone and my Bell cyclometer. The cyclometer was erratically reading 15 mph sitting still. Strange thing was I didn't have the problem on my mountain with the same iphone and same model cyclometer. I figured out that if you mount the Iphone holder to the left of the cyclometer, it causes interference. If you mount it to the right of the cyclometer, all is good!!!This mount is great.
