There is not excess cardboard used to ship it. It came with excellent instructions and everything needed to install artwork properly except, of course, the tools necessary. I used a powered drill and it a quick procedure.I really love the product. I used the thin frame and it was exactly what I was looking for - just a bare minimum frame. I didn't want anymore depth or bulk added, but wanted the edges to my canvas covered. It is hung on the wall very securely and looks fantastic. You need spacers during installation in order to keep the artwork centered in the frame.
