Thus far my conclusion is that the Reef Octopus is far superior to the AquaMaxx I've been using for a bit more than 2 years. To be sure, both skimmers are of high quality, but the AquaMaxx was a major pain in the whatever to assemble, to clean, and to reassemble. No such pain with my new Reef Octopus. Although it's still in its break in period, my impression is that it's working away quite effectively. Only one problem. The assembly instructions that came with it are essentially worthless.
