## Description

Overview Teton Supply Co™ Teton-Bond™ 130 is a high-performance Petrobond®* clay based foundry sand that is professionally formulated, produced, and quality inspected in the USA. Supported Applications -Mold for Precious and Non-Precious casting (non-ferrous metals including gold, silver, aluminum, brass, bronze, zinc, etc) -Use as a facing sand with other sand systems such as water-bonded greensand. -Backing sand for delft-clay in order to increase delft clay utilization. Directions/Use Notes -Sand should be riddled (broken up) prior to placing against pattern. -Moderately heavy ramming or pressing is required for optimal mold performance. -Appropriate mold release should be used with all patterns to avoid sticking and to maximize detail reproduction (Teton-Part™ or similar is recommended) Application Notes Cold Sensitivity: Dry and Powdery Sand that does not hold form -Use and store above 65F -Sand may become powdery or dry if exposed to cold. Regenerating Sand (fix dry sand) -Add a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol to the sand (ideally via bottle sprayer) and mix well. Generally, less than 1/2 teaspoon Alcohol required for 10lb evenly spread through the sand. -Always allow alcohol to evaporate completely before attempting to use sand. Reusing Sand/Black Crust -Sand is mostly resuable per casting. -Small amount of black crust is formed around the casting. -This crust is two parts: 1. Black sand. 2. Grey, "crispy" sand -Only the grey sand that feels "crispy" next to the casting should be discarded. Product Volume/Weight Info -10lb of this product fills a volume of around 200 cubic inches (Approx 6"X6"X6" cube) when moderately rammed (packed). *=Petrobond® is a registered trademark of Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.

Review: This is the Teton Bond Sand to Buy! Avoid the 190 Mesh Ultra-Fine. - I tried this and the 190 Mesh Ultra-Fine. The 190 mesh gave my nothing but trouble. The 130 mesh worked flawlessly! Really sticky stuff, so have a towel handy. I’m new to casting, but had great results with this sand.
Review: Works Extremely Well - Excellent product especially if you're working with lower melting point metals. As described, the part you have to get rid of does turn black and pretty much entirely sticks to what you've poured. Didn't need a ton of effort to get the form to turn out. I will say, if you're doing a larger form that's flat, make sure you press the sand pretty well so you don't get any kind of, "pour" stuck in what you're casting. On my second try it worked exactly as advertised with the finish being pretty smooth. Only very minor sanding was required, and I do mean minor. This is a great product and I'd recommend it. If you haven't done any metal casting before you'll need to do a little trial and error to get it right (like I did) but the sand works.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Which is a finer, detailed, mesh 130 or 190 mesh?**
A: 190 has more wires that 130. so 190 is finer . the number represents wires per inch.

**Q: Is this reudable for multiple castings?**
A: Yes, you lose a little each cast where it contacts the molten metal but the rest is fine

**Q: Is petrobond comparable to delft clay?**
A: Delft is finer than this 130 mesh product which comes at the expense of lower mold permeability (delft generally requires cutting vents and other workarounds and would just plain fail on larger items). The newer 190 mesh version of this product is much closer to delft in effective grain size and is a closer substitute.

**Q: How much sand do I get with one order?**
A: Start with 5 lb.. And be well

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ not sure how re-usable this will be
*by M***9 on August 5, 2023*

Using this for large aluminum castings. A surprisingly large amount of the sand turns completely black, dry and powdery after each use. Maybe for smaller pieces (that cool off quicker) there wouldn't be as much degradation?
