It's more of a very good secondary. It's smoother than a heavy wax, and I like it for the look of a very neat mustache. Someone else has posted this before but , the best way to use this product is to heat it up with a blow dryer, it becomes almost liquidy , use your finger nail on your index finger to scrape it out. Scrape away not toward. After that rub on both index fingers and apply to mustache. After I do this I form the mustache in the shape I want , then I let it settle, harden. I apply the other oils to my beard, and then I blow dry the mustache and get the wax all loose, and then brush my mustache into place. It stays great all day. When I first used the product I had to press somewhat firmly to remove wax from the can. Once I used it several times it became soft and was easy to remove. To apply, I rub it between my fingers before dabbing it on. I apply the wax based on the article How to Grow a Handlebar Mustache" on the Art of Manliness website. I like the smell of it as well. I look like I have major dandruff punctuated with the occasional wax ball in my mustache when I use this. Now before I hear anything from anyone, I DO know how to apply mustache wax. I've been doing it for years.The only reason I give this two stars instead of one is that I like the scent. I can somewhat work this into my beard (which I've been trying since I am a cheapskate and don't want to throw this away), which makes this not a COMPLETE waste.
