I usually operate it dimmed to soften the light. I like that this bulb does offer a brightness greater than several of the other floodlight bulbs I've seen advertised, for when you want to turn it all the way up.The range of the light beam is much narrower than the lightbulb which it replaced. It seems to be more spotlight than floodlight to me, but it still provides ample light in the room where I have it. (According to the manufacturer the led par20 flood light beam angle is 38 degrees.) It's pointing down towards my bar countertop, so this isn't an issue for me where I use the bulb.The dimming feature on the bulb works fine as long as you have it in a dimmable socket.
