    It's a fun book

The pictures are all fun and well composed, the patterns look like they are well written (though I just got it so haven't yet knit anything).

    Everything you expect and more

These patterns are amazing! Not all of them are things you would wear to work but enough of them are things that CAN be worn in an everyday setting to make the book great! Every pattern explains where she got the idea for the pattern and why it is for a Geek. I am proud to be a geek and loved that fact that I knew the stories behind the patterns. I think it is cute she used her Roller Derby team as models for the patterns, but a couple of the girls looked a bit frightening and that takes away from the joy on those patterns. I can't wait to start on the Aim to Misbehave Brown coat pattern and the Star Trek Dresses will be a hit at work even with people who have never heard of Star Trek. I love the little bits of Geek data sprinkled through out the book. Sometimes with books like this you get TONS of useless data ON SCI-FI silliness with one or two patterns thrown in as an afterthought. NOT SO with this book! There are little multiple choice questionnaires and some FYI things as the bottom of a few pages that makes the book fun and don't take away from your enjoyment of the book. It is a rare instance that I pick up project books and start planning to make more than half of the patterns. I have my own patterns for the scarves based off the FireFly and Dr. Who series and who hasn't made there own robot or two; however the spin she puts on these geek staples are wonderful! I am would recommend this book to any one who loves the world of the geek, or just knows people who do.

    Cute knitting book!

I loved Toni Carr's first book

Knockdown Knits: 30 Projects from the Roller Derby Track

, so I was super excited to find out about her second book, Knits for Nerds. Most of the patterns in the book are fairly simple. The designs are inspired by the books and shows they reference, so the majority of the patterns are ordinary designs altered (either by color or a small addition) to fit the nerdy theme. The patterns, therefore, are useful for both regular and nerdy use. Two patterns in particular- Creepy Filler Bunny and Robot of the Future- would make adorable kids' toys. Not every pattern in the book appeals to me, but there are several that I absolutely love. I'm giving the book five stars because I plan to make these patterns multiple times. Also, there is nothing at all wrong with the other patterns. I'm just not a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, and I've never seen an episode of Dr. Who.The striped Dr. Horrible Gloves are my absolute favorite. They're long, fingerless gloves which button all the way down the side. I'm also planning to make the Baby Elf Beanie and the Top Hat Fascinator (a tiny top hat!). Future projects include the Light of Earendl Shrug (a gorgeous, long-sleeved lacy shrug), Dragon Rider Gloves (patterned fingertipless gloves), Summer Queen Shawl (a pretty lace shawl), and Aim to Misbehave (a long cardigan with lacy edges). There are also two awesome sock patterns inspired by Tank Girl and Firefly, cute vests, Star Trek outfits, and Star Wars princess hats. The patterns in this book will appeal to a wide variety of knitters, not just the nerdy ones.
