Laptop is i5 chipset and the adapter is running through USB 3.0 port. For the price it's worth the chance, especially for laptop users. If you have a recent laptop with USB 3.0 it will probably work just fine. Make sure you get the latest driver (http://www.frescologic.com/support.php).Since it is not really it's own card and runs off the cpu graphics, it will flicker on more intensive video operations. But what do you expect for this price. I use it with Camtasia (video design software) and it works great. But it will flicker when the software is rendering the video. I've also played some less graphic intensive games on it just fine. Just don't expect too much in that area. But it will play movies and Netflix (depending on your computer).I like it so much that I actually bought a second one. But they conflicted and wouldn't both play at the same time. However, I needed a monitor at another location for reading scripts for audio recording. I just switch between them using windows graphics options by disabling one and enabling the other. No moving monitors or switching cables.
