The MB7040 from the I2CXL-MaxSonar-WR line of outdoor sensors is a rugged ultrasonic sensor component module. This sensor comes in a compact and robust PVC housing which meets the IP67 water intrusion standard and matches standard electrical 3/4?inch PVC pipe fittings (this product has multiple housing options available). The I2CXL-MaxSonar-WR sensors are factory calibrated to match narrow sensor beam patterns and provide reliable long-range detection zones. In addition, the MB7040 offers virtually noise free distance readings through the use of high-output acoustic power combined with continuously variable gain, real?time background automatic calibration, real?time waveform signature analysis, and noise rejection algorithms. **Q: What does it mean by the range of a level sensor?**
A: The range of the sensor shows you the minimum and maximum ranges that the sensor is able to report.  It will also report all the ranges in between.

**Q: Would this work underwater as an echosounder?**
A: We have had some customers use our sensors underwater but they were designed for in air use.  The speed of sound is different underwater and you will have to have an excellent understanding of the physics of the speed of sound and compensate appropriately. **Q: What, precisely do you mean by "long-range" ?  Please give numbers in centimeters or meters.**
A: This sensor will range from 20cm to 765cm.
