This is the bare minimum that should be used to secure the coupler. I'd really recommend getting a lock, but this works well enough. I lost my lock and keep this as a spare. It's nice because it has the chain you can attach to the trailer so you won't lose it and will always be sitting right on the hitch as as reminder to lock the coupler.
