Review: If you want to kill the roots, too, try this! - I just got this vinegar, haven't tried yet, but I'm sure it's worth 5 stars. Will change later, if I discover it's not. Here's how I learned to kill the weed roots, too. Use only epsom salt, NOT regular table salt, or nothing will grow in that spot for a very, very long time. Been there, done that. And we want the soil microbes to thrive, not die. In a handful of soil, there are more microbes than people on this planet. Thank you for going organic! How I got the idea below: My local nursery sells an organic weed killer made from vinegar, epson salt, limonene, hydrogen peroxide and molasses. The molasses adheres the spray to the leaves very well. But it only kills the leaves, not the roots. And temp has to be at least 80 degrees, sunny, with no water for 48 hrs. My dog kept licking the molasses off leaves, and the weeds weren’t dying, while she was grinning. *** If water hits the weeds before 48 hours, the epsom salt becomes a fertilizer and makes the weeds thrive instead of die *** After 48 hrs, the salt does become fertilizer, which is great, b/c the weed is dying or usually already dead. So I got an idea, tried it, and now I kill the roots, too!! And lower temps/sun don’t seem to matter. WORKS GREAT!! I’ve even gotten rid of small trees, whose roots were too tough to dig out. I’m sure this site’s vinegar, mixed with epsom salt and an adherent, like liquid dish soap or molasses, will do the same, or you could try all of the above ingredients. Maybe the epsom salt isn’t even needed, I don’t know. Find what works best for you. Concept: Deliver the mixture directly to the roots, and spray the leaves, for extra punch. Tools Suggested: 1 huge nail — about 6” long — more like a metal spike (I got at Lowes). Mallet or hammer. Turkey baster or funnel. How: Pound the nail, making a hole in the center of the weed, for delivery of mixture. Go as deep as the roots are, which may be less than 6”. Squirt or pour a little mixture straight down the hole to the root. Fill the hole with dirt, if you want. I don’t know if that would affect the root absorption or not, because i don’t do it. Use a tube for easiest dirt delivery, like the turkey baster with the bulb removed, to pour the dirt in. If you have a really tough tree or weed, and the first time isn’t enough, do it again. Epsom salt is fertilizer that I use on my flowers and Mitleider veg garden which uses sawdust instead of soil. Look it up on YouTube. Is so much easier to use than soil, that you have to keep changing out as the soil becomes depleted. Easy to plant in and to harvest from, and no dirt under the fingernails!! Happy gardening and weed killing everyone!!
Review: Works great with orange oil to kill weeds! (Recipe included) - We have a lot of small-ish landscaping rocks and gravel in our yard and a ton of weeds spring up through them. It's too hard to pull them by hand by moving all the rocks aside and trying to get a weeding tool through etc., so a neighbor gave me the idea to use 30% vinegar and orange oil (I refuse to use Roundup). So I bought this and some orange oil here on desertcart, I use like 1/5 orange oil and 4/5 vinegar in an empty spray bottle, and that's it! It works incredibly well. I mean, it will kill absolutely everything, so be careful where you spray it! I've used it to kill some invasive field grass in our yard and just yesterday I sprayed it between the cracks in our concrete driveway because a tree seedling is coming up! Yep, a tree. So hopefully it does the trick, I'm sure it will. I use one good spray in the middle of each weed (like a large dandelion or bind weed etc) and they die within a day. I don't dilute with water, maybe I should try, but this gallon has lasted 2 seasons of use anyway! Be advised that your whole yard will smell like vinegar for a few days, and obviously you don't want to spray a ton of it around the base of a tree or something cause it might affect the tree. But for killing weeds in rocks or gravel this stuff is awesome. I didn't wear gloves yesterday to be honest and definitely got some of the mixture on my hands and they're fine -- so I wonder if the higher concentration of orange oil was responsible for the skin peeling off in that other review (see the pics for this product). In any case I hope they're ok and that looks awful, but I wanted to say that I didn't have a terrible experience with my 1/5-4/5 oil to vinegar mixture. Yes, we should all be careful and wear gloves, but I didn't just yesterday so I don't have a leg to stand on really. My hands are dry today for sure, but they're always dry after a hard day of yardwork! I'll post this same review to the orange oil page too fwiw. I don't get anything for writing this review by the way, just trying to be helpful. I buy a lot of stuff on desertcart and want to get my money's worth and am sick of unreliable reviews, so I'm just trying to use my relatively high reviewer number to counter that trend.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: can this product be used for weed killer?**
A: If you add 2 gallons of water to it, you will have 11% which is in the range 10-20% recommended. The standard store vinegar is too weak.
Then add 3 cups salt, 3 TBSP's dish soap, and you are all set. Use a sprayer or a plastic watering can. Wait for a sunny day with no rain in the forecast.
Wear protective eyewear, skin protection, and rubber gloves, rubber boots, etc, don't breath in the vapors, and hold at arm's length when pouring the bottle into a bucket. If you want to plant the area, use orange oil instead of salt, with same ratio.

**Q: Do all these industrial vinegars have to be mixed with orange oil as an herbicide? Some seem to use dish soap.**
A: IMPORTANT: If you are using this mixture with salt, make sure it isn't on a flower bed or a potential garden area because the eventual salt buildup inhibits the the growth of plants and flowers. I recommend just forget about the salt and just pick a dry sunny day to apply the vinegar and dish soap combo. Dish soap helps draw the vinegar down to the roots.

**Q: If you apply it correctly to weeds but without salt (on a sunny, dry day) will the weeds come back? In other words, does it also kill the roots?**
A: Add a little dish soap to help the vinegar penetrate the soil. It will kill the roots.

**Q: Does anyone know if this vinegar will destroy the rubber fittings in a weed sprayer wand?**
A: Any 30% vinegar will eat thru the rubber seals in a Chapin style pump sprayer if it’s not properly cleaned after use. That means dumping the tank and triple rinsing with clean water and flushing the wand as well.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great natural weed killer and much more
*by E***K on August 2, 2022*

Great product. Pick up this 30% acidity vinegar and add a little salt for a DIY weed killer without all the chemicals. Spray carefully and be sure not to hit any grass, etc you want to keep. It works very quickly and effectively. Note: your typical 5% acidity grocery store bought won’t do the trick. There are many other purposes for vinegar, from cleaning windows to adding to washing machines to deodorizing and more. Consider it against other harsh household products. It might seem pricey for a bottle of vinegar but keep in mind this isn’t your traditional 5% acidity vinegar, and with all the uses it provides it’s a decent value.
