The french flag (a.k.a. top flap) certainly will not stand up on its own no matter how hard you tighten the screws. You need at least one side flag for it to lean on. Other than that, it's sturdy without too much heft. Definitely makes a large footprint if you are shooting with an SLR. I don't use the filter tray. Knicker works well. Big enough for 82mm Rokinon lenses with extra room. I don't see this surviving a bad fall though. The hinges and/or screws seem like the first things that would break. But for the price, I've seen junk for more. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great first matte box *by W***Y on Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2016* Great first matte box... only gripe is that it could be more adjustable vertically off the rods, right now my very (physically) narrow lenses even sit really low in there... with something wide like a 24 or less, you may see vignetting from the bottom of the matte box. I bought a drop-down rod adapter and some 6" rails to lower it to compensate. Also the ND filter trays stick a little bit, but hey, this is great for the price. ### ⭐ Breaks easily *by K***T on Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2016* Unfortunately while this matte box LOOKS professional, it's falls apart very easily. The barn doors are metal but the matte box is plastic. The side pieces that hold it together break easily. I sent Camtree an email asking if I could but the tiny pieces that broke. They never emailed me back.
