I am very glad that I purchased it! Carrying the yoga mat vertically is much more comfortable for me than carrying it horizontally at my lower back; it doesn't bounce, and it actually doesn't even feel like I'm carrying a yoga mat at all. I am able to pack a yoga block, a yoga strap, and a mat towel on the inside with a little extra room to spare for a change of clothes (I might be able to fit a pair of shoes if I didn't wear a size 12). On days I am going to the gym and don't need my yoga mat, that space is perfect for my shoes to fit without a problem. I'm both cases, a decent sized water bottle (the original blender bottle, I think its 20 or 24 oz) fits just fine; I love the mesh pockets on either side for it. The front pocket and ultimately the other mesh pocket are where I put my phone and keys.I did try a different backpack-style carrying bag that carried my yoga mat horizontally, and personally, I did not like that as much. This bag offers all the room the other one did with the added bonus of vertical storage of the mat. My husband got this for me as a Christmas gift as I was constantly schlepping at least 3 bags in and out of work each day and wished for something like this, not knowing it existed. I was using a typical long, over the shoulder yoga mat bag in addition to my laptop bag, purse, lunch box and sometimes portable breast pump (sorry guys) - I felt like a pack mule and it was wearing on my shoulders. This bag is absolutely perfect - it fits my lap top, at least one change of clothes, my yoga mat, water bottle, and umbrella - and the shoulder straps are very comfortable! I was nervous that my mat may hit me in the head while walking, but it's not even close and when getting in a crowded elevator it's not awkward. I frequently take it to yoga class - especially if I have other things going on afterwards and I’m not able to go home to change clothes. My yoga mat feels secure, although I do wish there was more space at the bottom of the mat pocket. Has great storage pockets, but of course there could always be more details like key ring or clip or special pocket for smaller things. There is one hidden inside, but can sometimes be hard to get to if your bag is packed. Seams could definitely use extra reinforcement!!! My laptop, yoga mat, and toiletries often go in this backpack for traveling, but the weight caused the shoulder straps the rip away from the bag.
