This is more of a cigar holder that catches ashes than a traditional ashtray. The bowl is so small, that the cigar rests on the holder, which is short to begin with, increasing the danger a longer cigar will flip off. Some connoisseurs may prefer this design so the butt end doesn't lay in the ash, but a standard gauge Dutch Masters cigar is too long until 1-2" are smoked down. My cigar lays nicely in the groove and doesn't roll off like it would when I used my former ash tray. It's only good for one cigar, however. Then you have to empty it. But I usually smoke alone on the patio anyway and I rarely have two cigars in one sitting.
