## Overview

The Sonnet Allegro Pro USB 3.2 PCIe Card delivers four 10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports via a PCIe interface, dramatically boosting data transfer speeds on Mac Pro, Windows, and Linux desktops. Designed for professionals demanding high throughput and power for bus-powered SSDs and NVMe drives, it transforms older systems into modern powerhouses with reliable, plug-and-play performance backed by a 2-year warranty.

## Description

The fastest SSD-based USB 3.2 Gen 2 drives now available can transfer data at 800 MB/s — many are bus-powered, too. But most desktop computers (including many new models) feature old-generation USB interfaces that can’t support that performance, and may not provide enough power to enable those bus-powered drives to function. Break through the bottleneck — install Sonnet’s Allegro Pro Type-A USB 3.2 PCIe(1) card in your Mac Pro tower, Windows PC, or Linux computer with PCIe slots, or Thunderbolt to PCIe card expansion system to support your fast USB drives at maximum performance.

Review: Doubled my MacPro 5.1's USB3 throughput instantly - I have a maxxed-out 2010 MacPro 5.1, 12-core 3.46Gghz with 80Gb RAM (currently has High Sierra OSX) computer for video and VFX work. I use a combination of Sata SSDs, and latest generation NVMe drives internally, and have been recently trialling the 'Anyoyo' aluminium external Enclosure Box cases for my spare M.2 NVMe sticks (Has USB-C out to USB-A SuperSpeed connection). I use these for Disk and Preview caching within Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects CC 2019. As a comparison my internally PCIe-mounted, AHCI NVMe gets (real world) 1.5GB/s READ/WRITE for my main Work Drive. A normal HD Drive would do about 80Mb/s. Up until today I was using a standard (cheap £25) 4-port Inatek KT4004 USB PCIe card internally, like many MacPro 5.1 owners. I was getting real-world 370Mb/s WRITE speed with its USB 3.0 interface on my Anyoyo NVMe external drives. Replacing the Inatek with this flagship Sonnet Allegro PRO 3.1 Gen2, has instantly **DOUBLED** my write speed on the NVMe's from 370Mb/s to 741Mb/s. My jaw is on the floor. It's not 10Gb/Sec or any theoretical maximum, but that blows ANYTHING I've ever seen on existing USB 3.0 Superspeed before and for Premiere and After Effects is tremendous. Seriously, for £150 quid, this is an amazing and simple upgrade for a 9yo computer. I spent hours researching all the various competitors out there, and folks, this is the one to go for. Yes, it's expensive compared to the £100 quid next-in-line but when you compare the specs, and the compatibility, it's a no-brainer. PRO TIP: For maximum iOS/iPhone compatibility on MacOS, defo load in Sonnet's extra "dskcd-usbpwr-103" driver software to the Mac (installs and runs perfectly on High Sierra). This works beautifully on the MacPro 5.1 and i thoroughly recommend it as an upgrade. The proof is in my photo attached to my review. A++ Sonnet!
Review: Expensive, but it works. - This one does the job. For custom Mac Pro recently upgraded and made to think its a more modern machine. Previously tried a cheaper one and it was underpowered to run peripherals. Especially the USB3 ports and SD Card reader on the monitor connected to the USB3 pcie card through upstream. My only complaint is the price.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does sonnet have a history of updating drivers for these cards when MacOS updates? I bought 2 other cards and drivers were never updated for new OS.**
A: No drivers are needed in current versions. The drivers are part of the OS.

**Q: Is anyone using this with the mac built in bluetooth without interference in El Capitan? Other cards interfere with built in bluetooth. Mac 5.1**
A: Using this card with 10.11.6 on a MacPro 5,1, and there's a bit of interference on my bluetooth mouse when I write a lot of data to my external HDs through this card. I tried two different PCI-e slots, and I'm still having problems with my mouse disconnecting, and jumping after installing the card.

**Q: Does this come with the 5 year manufacturer's warranty?**
A: UPDATE: I e-mailed Sonnet Jan. 24, 2017, at 1:30 am PST about this issue. Alexander wrote back and said that the Pro version definitely has a 5-year warranty, and he asked his web team to fix their website to include it on their 5-year warranty page. That was awesome!---------------------According to their website (Tech Specs tab): http://www.sonnettech.com/product/allegroprousb3pcie.html it has a 5-year warranty on the Pro version.

**Q: Are there any usb 3.2 devices on the market than can connect by a usb type a cable? i thought that type a was limited to usb 2.**
A: Type A cable will support 10Gb USB 3.2 connection. The cable must be rated at 10Gb.
