I was more happy with my cheaper Hamilton beach plastic and generic blender. This blender is only okay for the power level, and many times I have to stop it and stir with a spoon (for my frozen fruit smoothies). The biggest flaw of this blender is the cleaning: I clean the device immediately after each use. Even still, there is a silly gasket at the base of the glass container that joins with the bottom plastic portion. This gasket would collect liquid, such as milk, and build up into a slime. This would attract fruit flies and no matter how hard I tried to clean it without taking it apart, the flies would show up only days later. If you do decide to take it apart, it's a hassle and hard to clean because of the small shapes and narrow angles of the glass and plastic. It is not worth it, and the whole idea of a blender is to be simple.The pour spout lid is pretty useless: it's actually easier to pour with taking the lid off. The whole blender has too many "moving parts" and is not simple nor elegant (although it appears that way from first glace. The reason I bought it was because it looked modern). I would look elsewhere for a blender because this one is just too cumbersome and will cause you headache. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, works well for light to medium blending jobs *by D***D on Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2015* I'm quite pleased with this blender after 2 months. We use it every day for protein smoothies including crushed ice and frozen berries, fresh fruit etc. It crushes ice perfectly well. The Jar works very well for smooth blending and is very easy to spatula out every bit of smoothie for consumption. We had another Hamilton Beach for years but dropped the jar, decided to try a higher end more powerful blender so got a Kitchen Aid. It was heavy and solid, lots of power but we hated it. It immediately blasted the unblended contents up into the lid no matter how carefully you started it, the ribbed plastic jug was impossible to spatula out smoothly and it left unblended protein powder stuck on the sides of jug unless you scraped it off. Then the blade just snapped off after 3 weeks. This Hamilton Beach has none of the faults of the Kitchenaid and costs 1/3 as much. It's quieter as well. It disassembles and cleans up very easily. I find the four action buttons are perfectly adequate for all tasks. The jug is only 40 ounces which is OK for the two of us but 48 would be better for a family. It feels a bit on the flimsy side, the base is mostly light plastic and clearly it has less power than expensive blenders. But since it works so well why worry about that? ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars It depends on how you phrase it. *by R***Y on Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2013* I just got the blender and it left me scratching my head since HB claims that this blender uses 700 Watts of power. I looked under the base and it says: 120 Volts, 60 Hz, 3 Amps. From my electricity class, I recall that power = voltage times current = (120 Volts)x(3 Amps) = 360 Watts. Therefore, this is a 360 Watt blender and not a 700 Watt blender.So where is that 700 coming from? As per the literature included:"Wattage/Peak Power InformationThe blender as provided may draw significantly less power...Peak power is the measure of the motor wattage during the first seconds of operation. This is when the blender requires the most power to crush ice, frozen fruit, etc." And that may be true since induction motors can consume UP TO 10 or 12 times their rated (or steady state) power consumption during startup. So you CAN get 700 watts of power...for the first second or two, but it really is a 360 Watt blender if you plan to use it for more that one or two seconds (or 360 Watts during steady state).On the Amazon description and on the box it states, '12 blending FUNCTIONS'...not 12 blending SPEEDS! This thing only has 2 real speeds, low and high. So why 5 buttons?- Off- Low speed on- High speed on- Low speed pulse- High speed pulseIf you want to go that route, why not state over a million blending functions since blending milk with bananas (one function) is not the same as blending milk, bananas AND strawberries (another function). From my point of view, that's bait & switch. That's disappointing coming from a manufacturer like HB. I'll keep it, since I only paid $25 for it.
