2nd one.... Like the performance of the first one as well as the fact that it comes with the adapter plate. No issues setting up and installing.

Very good drive, but I'd recommend the 850 Evo if that one stays less expensive

*by A***D on Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2016*

I've been buying and using SSD drives for years, with Samsung being my go-to brand mostly because of number of positive reviews, but I also have drives from PNY and OCZ that I really like. This is my first ADATA drive, and I accepted an offer for a free sample in exchange for me taking the time to evaluate it and share my observations with you in the hopes that it can help you in your shopping. In short, this drive has performed admirably for me over the past weeks and has good performance compared to my other drives. As I type this, though, you can get a Samsung 850 Evo for $15 less and it has over 10k reviews. Prices ping-pong all of the time, though, so perhaps this drive will end up being cheaper when you're shopping - so I'll try to compare the two. If the 850 stays less expensive, my personal choice would be the Samsung because performance is similar between the two drives.I often use SSD drives in USB 3.0 enclosures (as well as USB thumb drives) for (a) transferring files in the 20-30+ GB size range. With both the 850 Evo and ADATA SP920 in external enclosures, I ran Blackmagic Disk Speed Test on my Mac and got the following overall speed summaries (which combine large and small read/writes):(*) ADATA SP920 SSD: Read @ 374 MB/s, Write @ 181 MB/s(*) Samsung 850 Evo SSD: Read @ 246 MB/s, Write @ 234 MB/sFor comparison, here are test results for a couple of my USB thumb/micro drives(*) Verbatim Store 'n' Go: Read @ 117 MB/s, Write @ 45 MB/s(*) Samsung 32GB Fit: Read @ 134 MB/s, Write @ 26 MB/sI'm definitely not that knowledgeable about the detailed Blackmagic test results (not shown) because it reports quite a few individual read/write speeds for various files, but if the summary numbers that I gave above represent typical usage, then it shows the 805 Evo writes data about 30% faster, but the ADATA reads data about 50% faster. Both of them are quite a bit faster than the USB drives, as you would probably expect.I also did some "real world" tests for how I use my drives. Writing large files between the two drives (because I think the Samsung 840 Evo in my Mac was slowing them both down), I got the following results: ADATA Read (850 Writing) @ 262 MB/s, ADATA Write (850 Reading) @ 209 MB/s. This showed a bit of a bump in both the 850 write speeds and the SP920 read speeds versus the Blackmagic tests. The included adapter bracket is a nice touch if you need one, and you don't get that with the 850 Evo drives. I don't happen to need a bracket anymore, but they did come in handy back when I was putting these into a desktop PC case. The one included with the SP920 is a quality bracket. The SP920 has a five-year warranty versus three years on the 850 Evo, but I'm not someone who relies on company warranties for items like this. Samsung has been pretty bad with customer service to me on other items, and I've never had to contact ADATA before, so I can't speak to their service. I thought that I'd mention the longer warranty in case you do use them. All in all, there's nothing about the SP920 that I don't like. Speeds are good, and so far, the data transfer have been flawless. I think it's a good drive.

    Plastic fantastic

I've been an SSD convert for many years, starting with the Intel X25-M. Since then I have installed SSDs from various vendors in different PCs, and I'll never choose a "spinning rust" disk for a boot drive again.ADATA sent me their SP920 256GB drive and asked me to review it. The first thing I noticed was its unusual plastic body - every other 2.5" SSD I have used has had a metal body. This suggests to me that the "thermals" are well controlled and also indicates low power consumption. It certainly doesn't hurt that it will contribute almost nothing to your device weight (assuming you install it in a portable device.)The drive itself is 7mm, but a spacer is included if your application needs a 9.5mm drive, A metal 3.5" adapter tray is also included.I compared performance to a somewhat older OCZ Vertex 480 drive of the same size, using the CrystalDisk benchmark. First, here's the ADATA results: Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 517.769 MB/s Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 321.022 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 239.187 MB/s [ 58395.3 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 197.272 MB/s [ 48162.1 IOPS] Sequential Read (T= 1) : 479.183 MB/s Sequential Write (T= 1) : 320.191 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 24.930 MB/s [ 6086.4 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 62.831 MB/s [ 15339.6 IOPS]and the OCZ results: Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 549.698 MB/s Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 522.526 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 353.522 MB/s [ 86309.1 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 207.334 MB/s [ 50618.7 IOPS] Sequential Read (T= 1) : 407.305 MB/s Sequential Write (T= 1) : 477.744 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 25.445 MB/s [ 6212.2 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 81.095 MB/s [ 19798.6 IOPS]The Q= number refers to request queue depth - a higher number of outstanding requests allows the controller to overlap transfers, increasing performance. But the Q=1 number is more typical of what you'll see in everyday use.Overall, the OCZ is a faster drive, though I think that in most use cases you would not notice a difference. The ADATA did come reasonably close to the claimed 560MB/s read performance, but fell short of the claimed 460MB/s write performance. The price point for the ADATA certainly seems lower, so I think the drive is a good value.ADATA says that free software is available when you buy the drive. You get this by going to a URL given in the Quick Start Guide or by scanning the QR code on the back of the package. The page leads off with Macrium Reflect Free Backup, but you can get that directly from Macrium. (This is the backup software I use.) There is also a link to Acronis TrueImage HD which is NOT the full TrueImage product but rather a disk copying tool. Very useful if you're migrating data to the new disk, though Macrium Reflect will also do this and I see complaints about repeated registration requests. I used Acronis TrueImage in the past but gave it up after too many problems. (It also does not handle Windows Bitlocker encrypted drives, which Macrium Reflect does.) Lastly there is an "SSD Toolbox" that is used for firmware updates.Overall, the ADATA SP920 is a decent drive, Not super-high performance, but not super-high price either. I don't yet have experience with how it behaves over time - other reviewers have done some testing there.
