The support bar is fixed into slots and welded from the back side so the front side is smooth and clean. These are very nice, strong brackets and look nice enough for almost any location. The screw mounting holes on my brackets were offset from the support bar and I installed them easily with an extended driver bit for my drill. The included screws are more than sufficient for mounting through drywall into studs. The shelf screws were a little long for me because I only used 15/32 plywood shelving, so I added washers.
