## Overview

The PNY NVIDIA Quadro K420 is a power-efficient, low-profile professional graphics card featuring 1GB DDR3 memory and DisplayPort 1.2 support for up to four displays at 4K resolution. ## Description

The NVIDIA Quadro K420 delivers power-efficient 3D application performance and capability. 1 GB of DDR3 GPU memory with fast bandwidth enables you to create complex 3D models, and a flexible single-slot and low-profile form factor makes it compatible with even the most space and power-constrained chassis. Plus, an all-new display engine drives up to four displays with Display Port 1.2 support for ultra-high resolutions like 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz with 30-bit color.

Review: Quadro K420 - a pleasant surprise - This card was purchased specifically for getting me out of a jam with a PC running SolidWorks 2014. The previous graphics processor was a behemoth and aging "gaming" card - a GeForce 560i. When running Solidworks, the 560i was painfully slow and I had to set undesirable display options to coax it to come out and play. A real groaner, but to be fair this is an ancient gaming card not intended for CAD. The final straw was image stuttering and Windows 7 "time-outs" due to the 560i's sluggish performance. I think it was the inclusion of a 22MB surfaced component in an assembly that pushed the 560i beyond its capabilities. The tiny half-height Quadro K420 is a delight. It enables CAD operation on my middling PC. Even when used with a very modest two core CPU (Intel G3258), the K420 produces results that are akin to my stalwart M6500 Dell workstation. Image rotation and manipulation are very fast, there is no annoying stuttering, and RealView Graphics functions perfectly. At around one hundred bucks, this little card is a real bargain in my opinion. The only minor stuttering I could detect was an occasional delay when initially rotating a complex model with RealView turned on. For what it is worth, the out-of-box tactile experience is a winner as well. The diminutive little board looks for all the world like a miniaturized Quadro 2000 at first glance. That said, PNY did not spare any expense on the build quality (as far as I can tell), packaging, documentation, nor accessories. All were presented with the same care and attention to detail that one sees with much more costly PNY graphics adapters, which I have also installed. Well done indeed. Folks at PNY: some of us do notice these things! In my specific situation, and with a 25MB assembly comprising a handful of small parts and one really big one - this graphics adapter is a stellar performer. I can only assume it would start to slow down with relatively larger assemblies, but I didn't have the opportunity to test that theory. Tip: Be sure to squeeze the thumb grip when removing the included HDMI / DVI cable.
Review: Video Car For CAD - Did not work for Solidworks 2004 on the drawing. park and assembly OK
