A sign of cheaply made knives - or bread knives. I will keep these until I can replace them with better ones. My last set have lasted 10 years but my knife block was looking very old and tatty so I wanted to treat myself to a nice new set and waited for this set to drop in price. These Japanese inspired knives are fantastic and complement the knives I already had well. Super sharp and cut with ease (I've had to warn everyone in the house to use them with care as they are so sharp). Dicing things like onions superfine will no longer be a problem with these knives. There is no very small utility/paring knife in the set and so this is something that you should bear in mind if you are buying and don't already have one. The knife block is nice and heavy in a lovely oak finish. It looks great on the kitchen work top.
