I follow the instructions, using the back of my nail then rubbing in through my hands then beard and combing through. It's really nice but I wasn't a huge fan of the cedar or sawdust smell that this has and my wife said I smelled like a pervy old man which from her expression I assume is not a good thing. (She's crazy though)I want to give this a 5 but the scent just doesn't work for me. I have not avoided but have never really thought about adding a beard oil or balm to my routine. Never really thought i needed one. Let me say i was wrong. If you have or are going to grow a beard grab some of the Nobleman's balm and a good boars hair brush (look at my other reviews there is a really good one on the low), and get to it. This has made my beard much more manageable and softer.
