I grew up on a farm. Horn material is like fingernail material. Your fingernail will burn the same way this horn will. Kinda like melting, but not like melting plastic. I assure you, these ARE real horn. Tap them together and you can hear it. That being said, and all cleared up now. I knew it was going to be ridged and wasn't sure how I'd like it. I LOVE IT! Feels very natural in my hand. Smooth, but not slick. Stays where you want it. Super accurate feel for picking, and also works awesome on strumming too. Totally sold on ridged picks like this now. The pick sound on the strings is minimal, and seems to stay the same weather picking hard or soft, same with strumming. My cellulose picks get louder the harder they hit the strings. These oddly enough don't. If you're looking at them then it's for a reason. BUy them. See for your self. Just know what horn is. It's not the same as bone.Update: 2.5 months later I still love the picks. You can file and shape any way you want. I created the perfect angles for my picking style and hand angle, put a high polish on the end. My speed picking is through the roof now. Sweet percussive hits on the strings with lightning speed and ease. I pick up another pck and can not duplicate the speed and clairity I can with my custom shapped horn pick. I only hope I can recreate this each time I wear one out. But they don't wear out fast.Every guitarist should try these. The tone is outstanding. Regular picks don't do it for me any more. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ BEST overall picks I've ever used, no doubt. *by V***F on Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2020* I love alternative material picks. Once you compare any material against any other, the tonal differences are shocking. "Tone is in the fingers" but the same is true for picks. Plastic doesn't sound like brass doesn't sound like steel doesn't sound like stone doesn't sound like felt. I have all of these in my guitarsenal plus more and they all work well for different things but these horn picks are, for me at least, the perfect balance of comfort and tone. It was THESE picks that made me almost stop using any of the plastics altogether. Horn is now my fallback pick and it took these to make me all but retire my entire collection of plastics. There is just no comparison. I suspect this is as close as one can get to the old tortoiseshell plectrums (but I haven't found one of those antiques yet to know for sure) But these picks really did change my standards. Unless you just hate thick picks, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't give these a try. It may just change your playing forever! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Definitely worth a try if you normally use high-end picks *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2017* As someone who is used to paying 10+ each for caseine guitar picks (then losing them constantly as usual) I had to try these. I'm usually not too keen on bone/horn picks but these are great, and felt more like caseine picks to me than the bone/horn picks I've tried prior. The tips are definitely a bit too pointy for my taste, but with a pick buffer/sander (if you don't have these, you need one! they're cheap) it was easy to round off the edge a little. I suppose sandpaper and a buffing rag would work as well. I like the bevel too! I use these picks for bluegrass and gypsy jazz, and they sound good on my gitane and martin. Not so much on my electrics but I'll always use the Dunlop 2mm on those.UPDATE - Seeing some folks say these aren't really bone or horn? Might explain why they fell different. One user put it ot the fire test.
