I have had the worst problem with fungus gnats and their larvae. They were continually hatching and they would fly up my nose while I was watching tv. They are the most annoying little creatures. I tap on each of my plants and if a gnat flys out of them, then I use this sand and cover the entire top soil area of my plant. I had to cover 5 plants and there was enough sand and still had tons left over. I was worried if I would be able to adequately water my plants, but it works just fine. My plants are not bothered by the sand at all. Within, a week, I had no gnats flying around my house. I was able to keep the new gnats from hatching and there have been none in my house since. I am in love with this product and couldn't recommend it any more highly. **Q: Is this sand? What is the color?** A: This is sand and I got the tan color. It has really nice, fine, sand and there are no big issues with watering. I just have to water a little bit more slowly since it has to filter through the sand. **Q: has anyone use it in kids sand table ?** A: I used this sand to decorate table and my daughter's beach themed birthday party. While it is sand and kids could play in it...I don't recommend it. It's pretty coarse and one bag isn't nearly enough to fill and sand table. One bag is about the size of a bag of sugar. I think store like Home Depot sell sand that is a different grain and in larger bags that would work better.
