To prevent going through the wood you need to get some washers. **Q: The headline says 24-48. I have 34" width. Confusing.** A: NO Problem! This EZ Shelf problem will expand from 28-48"! So 34" width is EZ! **Q: My closet has wall on one side, and wood on the other. Would I install one end of the shelf into the wall, and the other into the end bracket?** A: You can install 1 side into the drywall with enclosed anchors and screws. If the wood is less than 3/4" thick then I would use an end bracket (not included in this sku) to mount to back wall. Firm push of rod into receiver clicks into place, not difficult. I am 78 and had no difficulty installing shelf, just follow easy to read instructions.Good shelf, does the job; recommend shelf topper. I got this for a friend in a rental apartment for the washer and dryer closet. Only had a shelf at about 6 1/2 feet high and she had difficulty reaching it. I installed this about 18 inches above the washer/dryer. I chose this shelf because it is easy to remove and replace if the washer/dryer needs repair or placement. Takes about 5 minutes to remove the shelf toppers and rods leaving the out of the way brackets in place.
