## Description

Deep in the hills of tennessee, midway between nashville and knoxville lies a little community called muddy pond. During september and ocotber, you can smell the aroma of fresh made sorghum syrup being made by the guenther family. Stop by the muddy pond sorghum mill and watch step by step as sorghum syrup is being made. You can taste the syrup while it is still warm and purchase some to take home with you. You can watch the horses walk around the cane mill as the juice is being squeezed out of the sorghum cane. You may hear the train whistle blow as the wood fired, steam locomotive boiler makes the steam that boils the juice down to syrup. After making sorghum syrup since the mid 1960's with others in the community, several of the grandchildren can be seen filling containers and labeling jars. As the years have passed and the demand for sorghum has increased, we have gone from cutting the cane by hand, with a machete, to harvesting with a machine. We now have a cane cutting machine tha

Review: Best Sorghum syrup of my life - Sorghum -- the "other" syrup. Maple and molasses are better known and have their fans. But you really should try sorghum, especially on a hot, buttered biscuit. But do yourself a favor, if you do, and try this one from Muddy Pond first. Raised in the rural, deep South, I've been eating sorghum since the 1940s more or less. It was all made locally. In the late summer, I would see mule drawn wagons carrying loads of sorghum cane up the dirt road in front of the house to the cane mill in town. I would run down to beg the farmer for a piece of cane -- tastes like sugar cane. Sorghum syrup was a household pantry item and eaten on biscuits, pancakes, and even cornbread. Much of what we ate had a strong taste, possibly owing, as my Mother maintained, to being partially burned in the cooking. Muddy Pond sorghum is the best sorghum I think I have ever eaten! It is perfectly cooked with a delightful, mild sweet taste. It hits all the right notes and none of the wrong. Now to some, a syrup with the first name "Muddy" might be off putting. Don't let that stop you. It is grown, harvested, crushed, and cooked by one enterprising man, a Mennonite farmer in Muddy Pond, Tennessee, hence the name. Too bad his little community wasn't named Bright Pond, Crystal Pond, or Clear Pond for marketing purposes. This syrup is anything BUT muddy. I first came across it by watching a YouTube video. Look it up yourself, if you want to learn more. Intrigued and unlikely to arrange a visit to purchase, I ordered this on desertcart. I am so very glad I did.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Full ingredient list please?**
A: Sorghum is like maple syrup or honey. Just one ingredient. Sorghum. But it tastes like a milder molasses.

**Q: Is this supposed to be bitter? Because I bought it and it's quite bitter. Maybe it's a bad batch?**
A: I have purchased this twice. I have found it depends on what you eat that you want sweetened. Tried it on pancakes and it tastes somewhat sour. I put it on biscuits and it tastes great. Put on my Raisin Bran and it tastes good. I put it on sweet potatoes and it is good. Can’t figure out why it tastes sweet on some things and not on other things. Maybe it is an acquired taste.

**Q: Would like to try this, never heard of it. What does it taste like?**
A: It is a sugar cane syrup with a taste all it's own. Cooked down slower and longer then maple syrup. No samples available. Sorry

**Q: What's the gravity points in this? Ie add 1 lbs to 1 gallon water and read the Specific Gravity.**
A: Muddy goes by brix and their Sorghum is between 78 and 82 brix. It is about the same viscosity as honey.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love this Sorghum

This sorghum reminds me of being at grandmas in the south when i was a littLe girl. Homemade biscuits and syrup was a treat. I couldn’t find any at stores where I shop, so I was happy when I saw it on Amazon. I always try to keep some in the pantry.
