## Description

DESCRIPTION: the 835-p rosin flux pen contains a Type RA rosin-activated flux composed of Pure water white (WW) grade gum rosin. It is a unique solvent system that contains very effective activators. The superior fluxing remains consistent throughout the entire aeration process. The 835 provides fast wetting action and complies with all requirements for Type Rom1 flux per j-std-004. Application: the 835-p pen is designed to dispense flux in a precise application and used for leaded and lead-free chemistries. Excellent for prototyping and rework/repair on printed circuit boards. Works well on chip carriers, heat sinks, surface mounted device pads, switches, and sockets. Application instructions: the flux pen controls the flow via a spring-loaded felt tip. This helps keep evaporation to a minimum between use. 1. Depress the tip against a hard surface until the felt tip gets wet, but not flooding. 2. Gently brush the wet tip onto the soldering area to apply. To keep the felt saturated and the flow controlled, only press in the tip as needed. Attention! do not continuously keep the tip Depressed or do not press too hard. This can jam the Valve open and cause flooding. Note that a fresh felt tip will take a several seconds to fully saturate, so expect a delay before the flux starts to flow on first use. Moving the tip in circular motion can help loosen the felt fibers and speed up the saturation process.

Review: I wish I had tried this sooner!!! - I was surprised at the quality of this flux pen! A quick brush of the wire/base to be soldered, and boom - easy joint! No mess/spilling/waste/brush of a liquid dispenser, no goop of a paste. I solder infrequently (this one pen will probably last me a year), but this will be the only way I get my flux in the future. It is slightly more expensive to use the pen applicator, but it is my opinion that the ease of use and the results more than justify the extra expense. If you solder a lot, you may wish to go another route...but I would recommend giving the pen a try. I love it and won't be going back!!! Note: When first starting, you have to push in the tip a little bit to get the flux to flow...after that, you are in business and it is smooth sailing!

If it is a large through hole joint, it will tack it nicely allowing you to easily add more solder. If it is a small joint (30AWG wire for protoboards) it will fully solder the joint in seconds. I usually remove the flux with IPA, but not sure if that is necessary based on some of the other reviews. I have not tried it with solder wick, but based on how it wicks to large copper pads I expect it would work well for solder wick also. I do agree with the other reviewers about the tip being too large. Luckily I deal with mostly through hole and don't have tight spaces to get into. If you have been soldering without a flux pen dont hesitate to get this, you will wonder how you got along without it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I wish I had tried this sooner!!!

I was surprised at the quality of this flux pen! A quick brush of the wire/base to be soldered, and boom - easy joint! No mess/spilling/waste/brush of a liquid dispenser, no goop of a paste. I solder infrequently (this one pen will probably last me a year), but this will be the only way I get my flux in the future. It is slightly more expensive to use the pen applicator, but it is my opinion that the ease of use and the results more than justify the extra expense. If you solder a lot, you may wish to go another route...but I would recommend giving the pen a try. I love it and won't be going back!!! I found that if you add flux to the joint before you solder you can just get a small blob of solder on the iron and it will solder itself the minute it comes into contact. If it is a large through hole joint, it will tack it nicely allowing you to easily add more solder. If it is a small joint (30AWG wire for protoboards) it will fully solder the joint in seconds. I usually remove the flux with IPA, but not sure if that is necessary based on some of the other reviews. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Surprised how much this helps in some situations

I'm surprised how much this helps the solder flow and wick into the joint, even with rosin-based solder. Helps with: * Stranded wire joints * Hand-soldering SMD pads (better solder wicking into joints; don't need to pre-tin pads) * Removing solder or re-soldering a joint Getting rosin to flow thru the fiber wick (too much, too little) can be tricky, so I'm docking a point for that. I usually keep a paper pad close by to start/verify flow. Also leaves more gooey residue which is only a problem in rare situations and can be easily cleaned off with isopropyl alcohol.
