We ordered worms from an online supplier and they have thrived and multiplied. As you stack the trays, the tray above will sink down until it is stopped by the material in the tray beneath it, and can be a little hard to lift off. The composter comes with good instructions, including a DVD. I have never noticed anything but an earthy smell from ours.
