Most palm oil in America has been refined, bleached and deodorized. RBD palm oil has a bland flavor and is completely colorless because all of the antioxidant vitamins have been stripped (carotenoids, tocopherols and tocotrienols). Our sustain-ably sourced, RSPO certified Natural red palm oil still contains these natural substances giving it a dark red-orange color not found in the refined products. Our Natural Red Palm Oil has been allowed to cool to room temperature. This causes the stearic acid to solidify and fall to the bottom of the vat. When the top liquid faction is then decanted, the fatty acid profile is higher in fat soluble vitamins and lower in saturated fats (which have solidified and dropped out). This yields fatty acids similar to olive oil with a very rich red-orange color, much deeper in hue than standard crude red palm oils. Most of the red palm oils that are available in America are not like Wilderness Family Naturals' Natural Red Palm Oil. Instead they are crude palm oils that contain lower levels of carotenoids, tocopherols and tocotrienols and higher percentages of stearic acid, (an 18 carbon chain saturated fat). Another way that Wilderness Family Naturals' Natural Red Palm Oil is different from crude palm oil is in taste. In our Natural Red Palm Oil the free fatty acids have been removed. By doing this, the taste of the palm oil becomes very mild and its shelf life is greatly extended. Wilderness Family Naturals' Natural Red Palm Oil is rich in natural carotenoids (vitamin A), is a good source of tocopherols (natural vitamin E) and contains tocotrienols. It contains about 50% naturally occurring saturated fats and 50% unsaturated fats. The fats in Natural Red Palm Oil are not synthetically hydrogenated or altered in any way. It seems to absorb in the meats/veggies and there doesn't seem to be a trace of oil in what we are eating. So there is full flavor, and no oily residue.It also colors your food a little-- (not a lot). It is very tasty and appetizing and I read that it is a good way to lower bad cholesterol. I know there is some controversy regarding the use of this oil; we also use canola oil; but it feels and tastes more like a standard oil. Olive oil is good too.I don't use more than a table spoon or two when I cook with it.I would suggest reading up on palm oil and make up your own mind. It is really a good tasting oil and it tastes exactly like the red palms that I ate in the Amazon Jungle where I grew up. I put this oil on my toast in the morning instead of the butter I used to use. Two things happens, it tastes very good and it is healthy to eat. I find that I feel better and also my stool is much more regulated. I also used this to fry chicken the other day and it comes out very good!! I love fried chicken but do not eat it because of the fat content. This is a good alternative as it tastes like the chicken fried in lard or vegetable oil but with a little healthy palm oil twist. I have bought another brand but have not tried it yet. I will update once I try it.. but I already know for every day use I will buy this brand again because of the taste. Mind you, if you put this in the fridge this will turn hard as a rock. But I keep a little bit out for everyday use. This is a natural good and real product.UPDATE:I tried to use Juka's oil for frying, what a fiasco!! That oil smells bad and splatters so much that I spent two days cleaning my kitchen even though I used two splatter screens, one mesh one plastic! Juka's oil also starts smoking at very little heat. It acts like there was water in it and lots of it.
