It comes from eastern Australia where it can handle temperatures near freezing in the winter, and into the triple digits in the summer. You can grow Den. kingianum inside the home or office, or outdoors (just bring it in during before freezing). It will adapt to any kind of loose media such as bark or even rocks (it is also known as the rock orchid). It only needs light, water, and occasional fertilizing to thrive. The canes (also called keikis) offered here (singly or mounted on cork bark) are aerial propagations from a larger plant. They are blooming size and can bloom late winter or spring. This orchid is like a kitten or rabbit -- born practically ready to breed! It came in a long, thin box and was in perfect condition after its trip. It's a growing, healthy, and watered plant. I watered it immediately when I took it out of the box. This grower seems to have it together, and I would buy from them again without hesitation. I'm very excited to see the future blooms. In fact, I just bought a couple more right away. I have contacted the seller and will update my review when I hear back. The sole cane I did receive was taped into a bubble envelope. I was shocked it survived unscathed (it's not squished or broken) and looks to be incredibly healthy. It is approx 4 inches tall and no roots, both of which I expected from the product description. It's currently standing in water as instructed to establish roots, which should take a couple of weeks. If I had ordered one cane, I would be very happy. The cane isn't withered at all and the leaves are healthy and firm. Note this was shipped to Phoenix in 100+ degree temps! Pending the outcome of my inquiry, I would be inclined to order from Orchid Insanity again; they sent me a very healthy specimen and I am excited to add it to my collection. I think the order error came about because I ordered qty 1 of 4 canes and I can easily see how that could be misread. They looked like cigarette sticks in a flimsy box with ends taped together, maybe the packaging stunted their growth. I have many phaelenopsis orchids for many years that I purchased locally and they are thriving with weekly watering and bimonthly fertilizing. Don't know why these Dendrobiums won't grow/bloom.
