The first few times I tied them they did feel waxy and made my fingers sticky, but that's worn off and now they just feel like solid, strong laces that stay tied. I have not noticed any waxy buildup on the eyelets. These are higher quality than any replacement laces I've found at shoe stores, and infinitely better than the lousy Kiwi brand replacement laces at drugstores. I have these laces on a pair of semi-casual leather shoes (Rockport Northfields) and they look very much like the original laces. These are the laces I like. They are so waxy, they have a bit of white wax residue on them, and if you hold a portion of the lace out horizontal, it will stay horizontal and not droop down.
