His history begins with a love for high-end watchmaking which was kindled when he saw his father’s stopped automatic watch come to life. His father told him that the watch only ran when in contact with humans. Franc understood that there is a magic relationship between watches and the people who give them life. At that time he didn’t know where he would be driven by this revelation. Today, though his mission is clear, his inspiration still comes from the child who dreamed up his ideal watch.Franc Vila’s BioFranc Vila was born in Valencia, in the eastern Spain. He became passionately interested in art, design, watches and fountain pens at a very early age, and also collected watches and fountain pens. He gained a formal education in art, philosophy and science before becoming a shareholder and creative producer in a film production company. He has also worked as a biochemistry investigator, a science teacher, and in a luxury leather raw goods company.Franc Vila started to design watches on 2000, when he committed himself to creating high quality mechanical watches, and to creating some of the best timepieces ever made.Due to his education in chemistry he has a well of knowledge about materials, and thanks to this knowledge he was able to create his first wristwatches with a very special stainless steel in an innovative two-piece case structure. His education in the arts allowed him to design a uniquely stylish watch case that evolved later in the “esprit unique” shape characteristic of the FRANC VILA watches. Franc Vila officially showed his first collections at Baselworld 2005 with great success thanks to his original case and dial designs. Since then, Franc Vila has been producing timepieces with his characteristic “esprit unique” design, housing the most prestigious complications in horology such as perpetual calendars, flyback chronographs and tourbillons with minute repeaters or with chronographs. His absolute passion for excellence and for exclusivity leads to ultra-limited collections of numerated timepieces.
