I was surprised with how well they worked.I was skeptical of the 1472 degree claim and was determined to test this. After gaining my confidence in handling a full charcoal chimney with hot coals and the charcoal trays (with hot coals in them) in my Weber, I discovered I could pick up and move a red hot coal without burning myself.
