It comes with 2 keys, but they don't do anything (and they're inside the "locked" container). Ultimately I used a knife to lift the lid--nothing broke, it just doesn't open easily. After it's opened everything was great. I will say the cushions are quite large for a woman's watch, though you can squish it to make it fit. Also, watches with a leather band will stick up a bit and the pillows won't fit as comfortably as the watches that lie more flat with a metal strap. Finally, if you plan to use this for bracelets as well, they'll have to go on the top because any chunky stone/ decoration will make closing the drawer somewhat to impossibly difficult.Ultimately, I really like this box--it does exactly what I wanted it to do: organize and display my various watches, and allow me to organize my bracelets.
