These were particularly smaller than expected for huggies. (Maybe why they don't fit some people with larger lobes) The close up photos are deceiving especially when there was no scale at the time. However huggies are small everyone, they HUG your earlobe. Thus the name. These aren't the BEST of craftsmanship, but no different than your typical department store jewelry. Mine did lock well and seemed sturdy enough. Heck I only paid $60 (lightning deal) for them, they really only made no more than $20 over wholesale (with the going rate of gold at the time), I can buy wholesale so I know the appoximates. A year later, I have worn them nearly everyday and slept in them ( they are very comfortable) with no signs of weakening. I'm pleased with my purchase for the price I got. The gold with the tri-color makes them really sparkle. Also few fine jewelry is 14k anymore, 10k just doesn't shine this much! This is my first pair of huggies, so they do appear even smaller because there is no drop down. If you have a fat earlobe or very large earlobe, these may not work for you. The latch is very secure, snaps good and tight. Some cheaper earrings fail on that. There is a tag on them attached with a string saying they are American made and 14k.
