Review: Wonderful product! :) - For my son's recent wedding, I baked a 5-tiered cake. It was my first time using fondant and gumpaste, and I had a few nervous moments before it came together. I have always used buttercream icing but, after using the Satin Ice Gumpaste and Fondant brands...not sure I will ever go back to buttercream again, except as a basecoat. I was pleasantly surprised at the texture and ease of the Satin Ice Gumpaste when shaping the hundreds of flower petals---seemed like it took forever---but they turned out beautiful. My daughter-in-law wanted Calla Lilies, Stargazer Lilies, and Cymbidium Orchids. Yeah, I know, right? Just something "simple" for my first time. Hahaha! After some practice, lots of YouTube tutorials, and a lot of patience, I was thrilled they actually looked like the real deal. A few helpful hints I can pass along is the gumpaste dries out REALLY fast so you have to work quickly to shape your flowers. I covered and wrapped any unused small portions immediately. I did not use powdered sugar or cornstarch to dust my board or roller but, worked a small amount of shortening onto my board, roller, and hands whenever I handled the gumpaste. This made the paste more pliable and kept it from cracking and drying out as fast. Working with smaller amounts at a time helped, too. To color the gumpaste, I used Wilton's gel food coloring. I just kneaded it in until I had the right color. The dusting powders were the easiest and prettiest though for adding color and special highlights. Took about 24 to 48 hours for some of my thicker flowers to dry completely before I could handle them without them falling apart. They are fragile so keep that in mind when arranging them on your cake. I made an edible glue from about a cup of hot water and a quarter-sized ball of gumpaste that I added and let dissolve. As for taste, it has a slight marshmellow taste, kind of like fondant but not as tasty. Overall, working with the gumpaste reminded me of playing with Play Dough but, with prettier results. How many flowers can you make from 5-lbs? A lot! I had actually bought two of the 5-lb buckets anticipating it wouldn't go far but, I was wrong. Made probably 200 or so flowers/leaves from just one bucket. Never even had to open the second one and now I have extra for another project. I highly recommend this product. Have fun with it!:)
Review: A lovely gumpaste that is easy to work with. - I love sculpting cakes...and I had never worked with gumpaste and after some research found that Satin Ice was used by a lot of cake makers. The product came in a wrapped, resealable bucket that was easy to open and close. 2 pounds goes a long way for me as i'm not allways getting requests for hand made flowers unless it's wedding cakes so it is nice to have the storage container so the gumpaste doesn't dry out. Working with Satin Ice was very enjoyable...it's smooth, easy to work in my hand to soften and cuts/patterns great(you can see the details in my gumpaste butterflies and flowers in my photo). When using color I reccommend gel color and you can highlight it with luster dusts. The taste reminds me of a mild vanilla candy I've had before and my left over pieces get snatched up by my kids when they are looking for something sweet. I don't find the taste has any weird after taste and rolls onto floral wire well. I use cornstarch with my gumpaste as powderd suger makes it a bit more gummy/to sweet. It is a staple item in my cake making arsenal.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can you dye this gum paste?**
A: I used the wilton paste jell and it came out beautiful. This gum paste was so much better than the bag wilton type from the hobby store. I was really happy with it.I made three 4-5 inch animals and still have some left. I used the tip I found on the internet of putting the ball I was working on in the microwave just for a few seconds right before I did my form.

**Q: What is the shelf life after open?**
A: 6mo to a year after you open it, as long as you keep it in the plastic bag it comes in and snap close the secure lid. Going on 4 mo s with mine and fresh every time I open the bag.

**Q: Can you add food color to make the gum paste different colors??**
A: Yes, you can color fondant with any gel food coloring. Make sure to wear gloves since this item is already made up, so you will have to kneed the color into the dough.

**Q: Does this contain Gelatin?**
A: It does not state on the GUM PASTE label that gelatin is included in the ingredients. Gum tragacanth is listed as a stabilizer and cellulose gum as a thickener. Corn syrup and corn starch also thicken in place of gelatin. The INGREDIENTS listed on the label are: Sugar, corn syrup, water, palm oil, gum tragacanth (stabilizer), egg white, titanium dioxide (coloring), cellulose gum (thickener), natural and artificial flavors, modified cornstarch, potassium sorbate (preservative), acetic acid (preservative). Contains eggs - Nut Free - Gluten Free.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ a Dream that came true
*by B***N on January 9, 2014*

I live in Namibia. For many Americans and people in countries such as the UK, ordering or buying satin ice gumpaste, is like going to your local store and fetch it, or ordering it online with a click of a button. Well I've just received my first ever batch of real satin-ice gumpaste from the USA. I paid 16 USD for the 2lb tub, and 74USD shipping and handling. Import TAX and duties was 4 USD. Yes - believe it or not. I've always made my own gumpaste, well at least I tried using many recipes. Sometimes it cracked. Sometimes it never dried. And many times I threw the batch away. I've just played with a bit of the paste and made 3 leaves and one small rose. It might sound ordinary or stupid for you, but its like finally experiencing liquid gold. For the first time in my life, I experienced real gumpaste. The texture is unbelievable. It doesnt crack. Its not sticky. Its not messy. Its just wonderful. I hope that I will have the opportunity and means to import more paste in the future. As for now - I'll try to save it and use only when needed. I am so thankful. This is the best product ever. I am so fortunate.
