The first was a small wheel measurer, which was ok for use on concrete, and not so much on rough surfaces. The second I purchased was a large wheel like this one, and it worked for about 2 years, but was problematic the whole time I had it. The reset button on it never seemed to work right until one day it just broke and wouldnt reset it at all. I finally purchased quality, and even for a decent price. The Keson measuring wheel seems to be very good quality. #1 it has a contoured handle, so your wrist doesnt get tired after extensive use. #2, it has a locking extension rod, which cant slip, and seems to be very good. #3, the reset button seems to work very well, and doesnt get stuck, and is very easy to see and use. #4, it has a nifty kickstand, which I have found I use all the time. It even can be used in rough, or rocky situations, unlike another posting which said you couldnt. I have been very impressed with this tool since I purchased it! I measure properties for a living, ranging from vacant land (5300 acres) to small 1/8 acre lots with small homes. I measure square footage, and land area. TA Review: Exceeded my expectations - Was looking at some of the less expensive models, and because of the negative reviews I decided to spend a bit more and am very happy I did. It's well made and well thought out. I have seen negative comments about the stand for many of these measuring wheels and the stand is similar if not identical for all of them. The stand is simple, light weight and meant to be used on a flat and level surface and works perfectly fine when used properly. I didn't realize that this measured in inches, I was under the impression that it was in feet only, needless to say I was very impressed. The large wheel is well suited for terrain that is flat as well as uneven, mine will primarily be used on somewhat rough terrain consisting of mostly dirt & rock so the larger wheel should work well for me. As a side note, the measuring wheels with the small 4" diameter wheel would almost certainly be useless for anything other than very flat/smooth surfaces. Being 6'3" it would be nice if this extended more than it does. I have bought two of these for our use. **Q: does this measure in meters? for 5k or 10k distances** A: Measures in ft. and inches. **Q: Has anyone used this on a graded dirt road? thanks in advance for your answers.** A: The unit will work on varied and rough terrain and for infrequent use, is a decent unit. My issues with this unit is that the axle housing and counter are not very sturdy and in my case, the unit was wore out in 6 or 7 months. I use my wheels daily to measure existing homes and businesses on all types of surfaces, sometimes as many as 40 homes a day. Once the axle gets "sloppy" from use it no longer counts accurately and is hard to reset the counter. For lighter duty service than what I do it will suffice. Also keep in mind that I have used many measuring wheels; different models and manufacturers, and have yet to find one that survives to the end of the warranty with the volume of work I do with them. I average wearing out two wheels per year. It works very well and is an excellent purchase for the price. It might not be a good purchase if you need to be EXACT in your distances, as I could definitely tell that with human error involved, it would probably only be accurate to within a foot or two. However, if you are looking to get a very good CLOSE idea of a distance, it definitely measured the same both coming and going, so I would have to say it was very accurate. The telescoping handle was easy to use and functioned well. It was easy to reset and roll, and the only CONFUSING part was figuring out how to get the "stand" out of your way when rolling it over grass, weeds, etc. Turns out, it just FLIPS UP, and it was actually very very easy.
