I've only had it a few days. It was easy to assemble. All you need is a phillips screw driver. They supply a 10mm wrench. First of all, it's huge. It's not really table size, like a lamp. They will fit on a table, but unless it's a coffee table or a dinner table, they won't fit. I have it on my porch. They are very heavy, and very solid construction. I don't know about the paint peeling, but it's on a screened in porch, so I'm not really worried about it. It's halogen, so it doubles as a light. You can read by it, it's bright enough, but casts as soft orange glow, like those 70's heat lamps, so it's not blinding. It's great for ambiance. It's currently 59 degrees out at night. My porch is is 80. I ordered two, because reviewers said it wasn't hot enough, and sent the second one back. it cost I think $28 to ship it back, but considering the weight, it's a bargain. The two switches are covered in silicone, so no worries about the rain. I'm not sure what my electric bill will be, but I'll edit this if it's ridiculously high. I just noticed it got colder, but the front door is open, and it's only 68 inside, so that explains it. I saw lower ratings here, but much higher ratings at Lowe's and Home Depot.
