Review: A Great Thermometer - I have been using the CDN Candy and Deep Fry Thermometer since I purchased it in 2008 and it is accurate and solid. I use it for making toffee and caramel , both involving high temperatures and it has never failed. I leave it out in my utensil crock since I always seem to have a need. Keep it in its sleeve when not in use to avoid scratches that can weaken the glass. I find I get trouble free results when I use the provided clip to attach to the pot to avoid it getting tossed around. I like it a lot and would not hesitate to recommend. FYI* CDN is a food service company, their thermometers are used in restaurants all over and are known for their accurate temperatures.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will the alarm sound when it cools to a certain temperature, or just when it heats to a certain temperature?**
A: It beeps when it is within 3 degrees Fahrenheit of the desired temp, beeps a different tone when it hits that to and a few degrees over and a third time when it's over that up to about 10 degrees over the desired temp.  It will repeat those tones on the way back down as it cools.  (Did a simple test boiling water and cooling back down after turning off the heat.)

**Q: How long is the probe?**
A: It is pretty long, about 12".  I don't use it frankly.  It works well for some things, but I bought it for making candy.  The clip is decent, better than some, but the digital readout is very difficult to read when it registers above 230 degrees F.

**Q: Does it NEED minimum amount of liquid in the pan (2" or something) in order for it to work accurately ?? Or will it work even for small batch ?**
A: When making candy I tilt the pan when I want to check temperature so that the thermometer is submerged to a greater degree.

**Q: Even though it has pre-programmed temperatures, can i program this for making yogurt?  the high i want is 180 and the low i want is 110. thanks : - )**
A: Yes any temp can be programed

I have been using the CDN Candy and Deep Fry Thermometer since I purchased it in 2008 and it is accurate and solid. I use it for making toffee and caramel , both involving high temperatures and it has never failed. I leave it out in my utensil crock since I always seem to have a need. Keep it in its sleeve when not in use to avoid scratches that can weaken the glass. I find I get trouble free results when I use the provided clip to attach to the pot to avoid it getting tossed around. I like it a lot and would not hesitate to recommend. FYI* CDN is a food service company, their thermometers are used in restaurants all over and are known for their accurate temperatures.

Glass candy thermometer. It is well marked on the scale and accurate with the boiling water test. I like that it is fully sealed, not a plastic plug on the top. Only negative is the spring clip for holding on to the pot. It is flimsy stamped out aluminum. If you are replacing an old unit, check to see if the clip is spring steel.
