    Tasty, but not as Eco-Friendly as Expected

My husband was so impressed with the recipes in this book. Most of them (if not all) are easily made vegan. Many of them are easy to prepare and there are simple tiny instructions in the back for copying and taking with you. It makes it very convenient.I was surprised that the author used ziplock bags for holding food (sometimes even for rehydrating it). I haven't purchased zip lock backs in over 5 years because they take so long to biodegrade! I was shocked that a book about exploring nature was so dependent on them. I realize that this is the tradition in backpacking, but I was disappointed.

    ) and finally bought it. So many good recipes that both my husband and I enjoy making at home and eating on the trail. It's got a good enough mix that when we want to use meals that only need boiling water and not simmering, we still find what we're looking for. I like being able to find hearty trail meals that don't always involve meat - this is a great resource for building a trail meal rotation.

This book is great. It adds another option of food on the trail for those who have a vegetarian diet. I get the backpackers kit from harmony house and supplement some of the ingredients in the recipes with what's in the food pack. It makes the food prep even easier on the trail.
