It is very basic, but beginners need basics to get started. The findings are nickel free. I do not know how long they will hold up with wearing the item against the skin, but it is probably about the same as any cheap jewelry. That being said, you wouldn't want to make your learning mistakes on the good stuff. These findings are for your learning curve and your pocketbook. This kit, in terms of the nickel free kit, works well in replacing several ear hooks that have been bothering me.If you have tarnished silver and want to use this kit to repair tarnished jewelry, this will also withstand cleaning with baking soda, aluminum foil and hot water, but definitely won't do well with a commercial cleaner.FYI Best way to clean silver jewelry, EVEN WITH soft gemstones: BOIL WATER. Prepare a flat glass tray with a sheet of aluminum foil on it. Measure out 2 TBSP baking soda and 2 TBSP salt. Place your jewelry on the aluminum foil, completely flat, and pour boiling hot water on it. Wearing NITRILE gloves (rubber will wreak havoc), quickly sprinkle the salt and baking powder over the jewelry, gently mixing with your fingers. It will fizz like crazy and smell like rotten eggs-- that's the sulfur transferring from your silver to the aluminum. Remove quickly after fizzing stops, and rinse with hot water and liquid soap (don't use anything with "moisturizer" on it.)
