The guard then easily slid onto the post holding a front wheel. The person who wrote the review I read said he used electrical tape to hold the two sides of the guard together. I found a plastic zip tie did the job well. This has been a fantastic help and I highly recommend it. In addition, I agree with another review that they cause black scuff marks which are very difficult to remove.
