But it was my 8 yr. old 3rd grade granddaughter who gravitated and fell in love with the characters and related more to the story (probably because she's a "reader" and loves books). Her little sister seemed casually interested, nevertheless, she sat still and listened to the story...poring over and scrutinizing the pictures. She seemed to love "Chick" best with his cute antics. The graphics are very colorful and reminded me of when I was a kid.. (Fun with Dick and Jane). The type is large and simple with just enough big words to challenge a second or third grade reader. I have been burned before, but we gave this a preview in person before buying and we love it.In this book, Chick 'n' Pug's favorite toy Squeaky Hamburger has been stolen by none other than The Dude! The Dude is giant, hairy, and very drooly. It is fun to see lazy Pug, tiny but adventurous Chick, and the humungous yet unaware The Dude.
