One of the primary features of the bag that gives it great versatility is the removable laptop sleeve. On so many other messenger style bags, the padded laptop area takes up a huge portion of the interior space rendering it almost useless for carrying anything but a few extra items. If you have a small frame you might find this bag a little on the large side.Construction - The bag itself is on par with what you've come to expect from Maxpedition; A+. The interior has a light colored grayish lining that makes it easy to find items in low light and the exterior is the same tough water resistant nylon with double stitching and reinforced stress points that we expect from a Maxpedition.Design - For a Maxpedition bag this is definitely minimalist, much like the Larkspur. There are only a few things I'd change about the bag that lean toward curiosities and are not outright detractors. First, I think a larger width strap would have been a better choice. The one inch thick strap feels anemic at best (Also, I'm not a fan of the plastic clip attachment system, though it seems durable and tough enough to last. At least it's not a buckle.). Second, The hook and loop in the rear compartment needs to be on both sides of the pocket. As for the luggage strap, I could take it or leave it. Maybe they could find a way to make that removable.Value - It's pricey, but worth the money when you've seen what the competition offers.Is this the best EDC bag out there overall? No. but for those that want a messenger style bag for EDC that can also carry a laptop, this is an excellent option. I've tried the Maxpedition Larkspur, the 5.11 Lima, and the Blackhawk! Covert Carry and this is far and above the most balanced and usefully designed messenger bag that i've found. All the materials are top notch. Very sturdy. There's a strap you can clip around your waist for extra security and comfort. The zippers seem very strong and the stitching is great. There's tons of room.Like many other reviewers I was immediately disappointed by the shoulder strap when I took it out of the bag. I thought after reading the reviews that I would be OK with it, but it's hard to underestimate how uncomfortable this narrow shoulder strap appears when you first pull this thing out of the packaging. The strap looks downright painful and comparing it to the shoulder strap on old bag I was replacing I almost wanted to return this bag, but I gave it a shot. Though the narrow, thin strap looks painful to wear, it turns out to never really be a problem for me. There is a wide shoulder pad you can slide around the shoulder strap that helps avoid discomfort. I do wish they had a wider and thicker strap for the shoulder, in fact I can't understand what they were thinking with this as it doesn't look right, but as I said it doesn't bother me while using the bag.
