However, most lights, LED or otherwise, commonly use a minimum of a 18 gauge wire. I would select a Posi-tap that would handle that gauge (18-16 gauge). **Q: Will this work for a cloth covered lamp wire?** A: Most lamp wires are 14 to 16 gauge. You would nee a larger size Posi-Tap. Want to tap into a switched power source. Better to have a size too large I'm guessing.** A: It depends on what you're powering. A 1-2 amp circuit would probably require about 18-20 gauge wire. As the numerical gauge size increases, the thinner the wire is and the less amperage it can carry.
