Great value! - Having read about the difficulty of playing the bigger NAF, I was leery of getting a low D flute. I found this one to be about as easy as my A and F# flutes. The workmanship and wood is top notch. And yes, that is real wood inlay on each side. The Cherry is of high quality and has a silky smooth finish. But of all it has a rich throaty tone that I expected from the bottom end of its scale. I am a very satisfied owner of this Spirit flute. Review: Damaged - The flute at first appeared to be well constructed but after a closer examination I discovered that the wood of the totem which sits on top of the flute and is responsible for the tone had a crack in it. I think this will enlarge over time and change how the flute sounds. I'm sure whoever checks these flutes (quality control) should have noticed this and replaced the totem. Enjoy! **Q: is this low d the same as a base d? is it 440 hz. if not what is it tuned to 432 hz. or 528 hz. ?.** A: I don't know the Hertz range, but I will say I bought this flute in the hopes that it was a true bass D flute, and was disappointed with that aspect. It is probably tuned to a higher Hertz range than I was hoping for. At this time I am definitely disappointed with my flute. ### ⭐ This is a "miss" *by I***E on December 5, 2013* not quite what I expected in a flute. description should note that the flute is made of two pieces of wood, and made quite sloppily: the seams are not flush on the inside of the flute and and I could easily see where the adhesive oozed out from the seams and was allowed to dry, also on the inside of the flute. Also, the outside of the flute stank of lacquer so much so that I could not play the flute for about 2 weeks after I received it. Although pretty to look at, this flute does not have the attention to detail that my other flutes have. The tone is ok, not wonderful, probably due to the internal unevenness of the wood.
