The White-Rodgers thermostat 1E30N-910 is an easy to operate low voltage mechanical thermostat. The 1E30N-910 is compatible with heat only systems, millivolt systems and conventional oil/electric/gas systems.

Review: Ideal simple replacement for old mercury-in-glass models - This mechanical thermostat is ideal for replacing an old-style model with a mercury-in-glass switch. (Drop old Hg switch at HazMat roundup!) Base dimensions are 2.75" W x 4.5" H, with 2 mounting screws 3.25" apart on the vertical centerline. This model includes a "heat anticipator" which is simply a resistor that gently warms the sensor while heat is on (about 0.1 Watt) to tune overshoot and cycle times. Different furnaces draw differing current to operate, so you must adjust this resistance (about 0 to 2 ohms) to work with your furnace and produce the correct amount of sensor heat within the thermostat. The anticipator is calibrated in Amps, for the current your furnace relay draws when the heat is on. If your old T-stat has an anticipator, copy this setting. My gas furnace was a thermopile-powered "millivolt" system, so I adjusted the anticipator to 0 ohms (the 1.2A setting). The documentation is not entirely clear that the anticipator pointer onto the calibrated scale is opposite the wiper that actually touches the resistance wire. One other adjustment I made was to calibrate the temperature indicator by turning the screw on the back side of the cover; it read about 5 deg F high when received. Trouble free after that.

**Q: Does this come with the subbase that has the Off/Heat switch?**
A: This Emerson White Rodgers 1E30N-910 Thermostat is VERY simple and comes with 3 components:
(1) A wall plate that you mount with 2 screws and to which you attach the 2 control wires,
(2) The thermostat base that actually holds the bimetal thermostat, and
(3) A cover with a bimetal thermometer displaying the current actual ambient temperature.
The thermostat base is mechanically and electrically connected to the wall mounting base with 2 machine screws, and has a lever protruding out the bottom of the unit that sets the desired temperature.  I do NOT believe this model features a System OFF switch, so simply moving the setpoint down to 50 degrees is as close as you can get.  I believe that the 1E50N-301 Thermostat includes the switching subbase with the Heat/Off function you desire.  I'm not a pro but I've installed this unit on more than one millivolt furnace and had no problems.  Unfortunately, none of these were in my own home so I can't go look at one of them for you.

**Q: Have to replace a gas fireplace thermostat.  I was told there are specific wall mount thermostats for a fireplace. What type should I get?**
A: Don't know what kinda fireplace you have, but this works great on mine. I just wired my 2 switch wires to the tstat and was good to go.

**Q: We need to replace our old one that works with our gas free standing heat stove - will this one work? looks the same but model # is one # off.**
A: This thermostat is very simple and is basically a single-pole on/off switch for heat-only applications.  It's identical to the old mercury-in-glass thermostats from the 1940's except it uses a mercury-free magnetic switch instead.  It has an adjustable "anticipator" (resistor)  for 24V systems but my furnace is a self-powered "millivolt" model so I set the anticipator to zero ohms and it works fine.

**Q: I need a milvolt only thermostat for my gas log stove. Will this thermostat work?**
