Plop the apple down, jam this guy on top, push down hard, and voila: sliced apples with the core ready for compost. Then, just a quick rinse and pretty much good as new. I have used it for a few weeks now on both small and large apples, which I frequently eat for breakfasts. (I swear, apples just taste better when sliced.) It does take a bit of muscle power to cut through the apple, but this is not unique to the West Ox apple slicer. I have another slicer from a popular brand that also takes a bit of work to push it completely through the apple. Overall, it's a good slicer that's easy to clean at a good value.
