I have over counter cupboards at 17"** A: This isn't really true. You don't need to open the lid the whole way to remove the basket at all. As long as it will get 3 or 4 inches clearance you'll have no issues with it - I myself have low cabinets between the counter and where I put my fryer and I've never once had any issues using it. Be aware though that if it does hit the bottom of the cabinet sometimes it's hard to get it unjammed without knocking the lid off of its wire hinges.
