First of all the child must identify emotions already. I would say you can use them with children between 7 and 12 years old. It can also be the perfect exercise to help them think about different posibilities and ways to cope with hard situations in an assertive way. **Q: Do these cards tell you what to do in these situations or are parents supposed to wing it?** A: There is no information given telling you what to do. These cards are supposed to start a conversation between you and your child/children so that you can instruct them. The situations are not so uncommon that you - as the adult - will not know what to instruct the children to do. These are wonderful cards! I use them I'm my classes Pre-K through 2nd grade, and they are appropriate for these age groups with no problem.
