All the edges were finished well, and it perfectly fits my Miyabi 7” birchwood santoku (classic, not rocking santoku). I can see how the peg could be easy to lose—but if you just flip the saya over to push out the peg into a bowl (and maybe line with a small towel or kitchen rag so it doesn’t fly out), it’s nbd. The saya wood is quite light, true to magnolia. After a thin coat of food-safe mineral oil it’s roughly the same color as the birchwood handle (also oiled), just a touch creamier/paler. The red seal is a fainter red than I expected, more pale coral/pinkish-orange (vs. deep true crimson on the Miyabi handle accents/blade logo)…but still very handsome all together!
